Power Up Gloves increases the weight of a compact 12 oz boxing glove with internal 1 oz steel modules. Progress gradually, typically in 2 oz steps, according to the boxer’s level, goals and technique.

What is Power Up Gloves

A glove that grows with you, not the other way around

Power Up Gloves is a 12 oz boxing glove system with internal weights distributed symmetrically across the back of the hand and, on PU Max, the wrist as well. Removable 1 oz steel modules let each boxer adapt the load without concentrating it at a single point.

The philosophy is not simply to add weight. It is to distribute it evenly, progress in controlled 2 oz steps and keep the load integrated into the boxing movement rather than held in the palm or concentrated at the wrist.

The golden rule: if the added weight alters your guard, speed, coordination, or the alignment of shoulder, elbow and wrist, stop increasing the load.

Why it works

It's not just more weight — it's where and how it's placed

The key is weight distribution. A dumbbell concentrates mass in the palm and a wrist weight concentrates it around the wrist. Power Up Gloves spreads the load symmetrically through the glove while keeping the front impact zone free.

Most warnings about punching with added weight come from protocols using relatively heavy dumbbells in shadow boxing, not from a real boxing glove with fixed, distributed weights hitting a bag or pads. We have not found a published study that reproduces the Power Up Gloves architecture; that is why the system is built around even distribution, small 2 oz increments and continuous technique control.

Two load ranges

PU Max or PU Lite

The same philosophy, with two load ranges: PU Lite reaches 20 oz and may be more than enough for most practitioners. PU Max extends the system to 32 oz for those who want to go further, with the option to reserve specific rounds for maximum-load work.

How it works

One system, six reasons to train with it

Designed to enable progressive overload without penalizing technique.

01

Removable modules

1 oz weights go in and out through small low-profile zippers: gradual progression, module by module.

02

Symmetric, close-to-hand load

Always the same amount in both gloves, close to the hand, to help train the punch's acceleration phase.

03

Progress at your pace

Each boxer progresses at their own pace, masters each level and only adds another 2 oz while technique stays clean.

04

Fits any session

Compatible with technical work, heavy bag, pad work and specific strength rounds.

05

One glove, full range

Covers everything from base weight to maximum capacity, without changing models.

06

Final unload

Finish with no weights at all for a feeling of lightness and speed in the punch.

Progression & limits

Find your maximum useful weight

For every athlete there's a point beyond which adding more weight stops delivering a boxing-specific technical benefit and starts working as general strength training.

Illustrative diagram of load zones: standard training, Power Up zone and strength-training zone

Illustrative diagram. Ounce ranges are indicative, not a universal recommendation: the real limit depends on each athlete, their level and their technique.

Three signs you're still in your useful range

1

High guard under fatigue

Your guard stays elevated even in the last rounds or sets.

2

Fast punch return

Return speed doesn't slow down with the added load.

3

Technically clean striking

Trajectory and the alignment of shoulder, elbow and wrist stay correct.

In short: more weight only helps if technique holds up. If any of these three signs fails, reduce the load by one pocket.
Training methods

Two ways to progress

Routine 1

Constant progression

The whole session is done with the same load. Start by adding one weight per glove and hold that level until it feels comfortable.

Afterward, another weight per glove can be added, continuing to progress gradually.

The load should not increase if it penalizes punching technique.
Routine 2

Descending load

Training starts with a high load and moves through phases toward a moderate or light load.

Weights are removed progressively until the session finishes with none, aiming for the unload effect.

Recommended not to exceed the maximum load more than once a week.

Precise modules, sold in pairs

Each weight is 1 oz (≈28.35 g) and a compact stainless steel bar with rounded corners and edges. Depending on the pocket and model, each compartment holds between 1 and 3 units in the back of the hand, and up to 6 in the Boxing model's wrist pocket.

Sold in blister packs of 2 units: one weight for each glove, to always keep the load symmetric.

Frequently asked questions

We answer your questions

How do I adjust the weight load?

The 1 oz modules are inserted or removed through the zippers on the back of the hand. The same amount must always be added to both gloves, increasing the load gradually and only while technique stays correct.

Is it safe to train with added weight?

The system is designed to enable progressive, controlled overload. That said, progression should stop if the added weight alters guard, speed, coordination, or the alignment of shoulder, elbow and wrist. If pain or discomfort occurs, reduce the load or stop using it.

How is this different from a heavier conventional glove (16 or 18 oz)?

A heavier conventional glove usually gains ounces by adding more foam, which increases its bulk and can affect impact distance. Power Up Gloves keeps the compact profile of a 12 oz glove and adds weight through internal metal modules, without changing the front cushioning or the feel of the punch.

Is it safe for the wrists and joints to train with this extra weight?

The design avoids concentrating all the extra mass in the palm or only at the wrist: it distributes the load symmetrically through the glove and leaves the front impact area free. This is mechanically different from dumbbell and wrist-weight protocols, but there is not yet published experimental evidence on an identical system. Stop increasing the load if discomfort appears or wrist, elbow or shoulder alignment changes.

Can I hit the heavy bag normally with these gloves?

Yes. The weight system doesn't interfere with the front impact foam, so the feel and cushioning when hitting the bag stay similar to a glove with no added weight.

Can I use the weights for sparring?

No. Power Up Gloves is not intended for hitting another person with weights installed; it's designed for technical work, heavy bag and pad work.

What's the difference between PU Lite and PU Max?

PU Lite starts at 12 oz and holds up to 8 one-ounce weights, reaching 20 oz. PU Max also starts at 12 oz but expands capacity to 20 weights, reaching 32 oz and allowing a few very high-load rounds.

How do I maintain the gloves and weights?

The weights are stainless steel and the pockets close with a zipper to keep them in place. We recommend checking the pocket closures before each use and storing the gloves somewhere dry.

Are the weights sold separately?

Yes, in blister packs of 2 units (one weight for each glove), designed to replace or extend the load your glove already carries.
